U is for ‘Unity’

(Unity) One is the loneliest number.  It is neither composite, nor is it prime. It is the unit of our number system, and stands alone.

One is the best. “We’re #1! We’re #1!”

I am certain I was taught in elementary school that ‘1’ is a prime number. I remember a poster in the classroom that put the prime numbers from 1 – 100 in a 10 by 10 grid, displaying only 1, 2, 3, 5 …. These days that is not the case. I’m not sure when it changed, but my curiosity clings to this topic so I’ll write more posts about it on a later date.

i wonder, what other things was I taught that are now incorrect?

Let’s see…

Dinosaurs are not lizards.pterodactyl_one

Pterodactyls are not dinosaurs.

There is no such thing as an ultimate primary color, just color spaces.

Pluto is no longer a planet.

“Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Genus Species” is not the… sigh

The cake is a lie.  (Wait, I think this one was correct.)

Just what is the world coming to?

What are some of the things you learned in school that later you found was completely wrong?

We only use 10% of our brains (even though I’m convinced I only use 10% of mine, it’s exhausting to try to use more). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_percent_of_the_brain_myth

Pluto no longer being a planet still irks me so much! It’s a planet!
